You’ll find Kaimanawa Lodge in the town of Turangi, at the southern end of the Great Lake Taupo. The town is nestled in the bend of the mighty Tongariro River, bordered by majestic mountains and a vast lake. Moody. Powerful. Elemental. Incredibly beautiful! It’s a place that gets under your skin and never leaves.
Modern and comfortable, the resort is perfect for those looking to make the most of their New Zealand escape. During the winter months, the towering snow-capped mountains are a winter sports paradise and the air is filled with the soft sound of skis on fresh powder.
In the warmer months, the mirror-like surface of the lake becomes a buzzing activity. There’s everything from swimming, water skiing, paddle boarding and kayaking. While the more adventurous can strap on a life jacket and get their adrenaline pumping with a spot of rafting or jet boating on the nearby rivers. Brilliant fun! For those who prefer to keep their clothes on, there are plenty of bush walks through spectacular scenery and, of course, you can always try your hand at trout fishing.
A trip to Turangi is a must. It has a number of excellent restaurants serving fresh local cuisine, and the cafes serve up a mean espresso. A visit to a Turangi vineyard is also an experience not to be missed. But whatever you do, make sure you take time to relax in one of the famous thermal pools. You'll feel the stress melting away. Delicious!
